The final Nintendo Direct briefing dedicated to Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS was held today, and the 35-minute broadcast featured quite a few notable announcements. This past week Nintendo returned to its series of Nintendo Direct announcements for the first time since the summer, and next month will be the final dedicated broadcast for Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.The information comes from a Nintendo of Europe news release on Thursday, lost in all the news of that day's Nintendo Direct. It was the company's first since the death of its well known and well liked president Satoru Iwata in July. Iwata had been the host of the series.There have been three Directs dedicated to Super Smash Bros., the last one a pre-E3 event in June that formally introduced the new characters Lucas, Ryu and Roy to the game. A special installment of Nintendo Direct will stream live on December 15, and will provide more details on Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U's upcoming addition to the roster: Final Fantasy 7's Cloud Strife.The presentation will be hosted by game director Masahiro Sakurai, who will share information on "Cloud and more," according to Nintendo. A press release announcing the presentation refers to the Nintendo Direct as "the final video presentation dedicated to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U." New Super Smash Bros. fighters Cloud, Corrin and Bayonetta are getting their own amiibo figures, Nintendo confirmed today.Series designer Masahiro Sakurai announced that Corrin (from next year's Fire Emblem Fates) and Bayonetta would be among the final characters added to the roster during today's final Super Smash Bros. presentation. There very last wave of Super Smash Bros. amiibo have been dated, months after they were first revealed. Bayonetta, Cloud and Corrin make up the last set of figures based on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros., and they hit retail on July 21.To make up for the long wait, we’re getting double the amount of amiibo than we expected. There are two versions of both Cloud and Bayonetta, as well as male and female Corrin amiibo included in the selection. The official Super Smash Bros. Twitter account uploaded some super sleek photos of the amiibo following the Nintendo Direct presentation where the company gave their release dates. Earlier this year, Nintendo asked fans what characters they most wanted to see in the next Smash Bros., and it looks like the votes are in: Cloud from Final Fantasy VII is the game's latest confirmed fighter.During a Nintendo Direct presentation today, Nintendo not only revealed the character, but also showed off his moves, limit breaks, and a new stage based on Final Fantasy VII's Midgar area.Cloud will come with different costumes that reflect character design changes through both the games and movies featuring him. However, it's not clear if there will be a design based on his blocky, original PS1 appearance.The Midgar stage that he brings with him features a massive Mako reactor in the background. Nintendo has announced that Final Fantasy 7 hero Cloud Strife will be available as the next Super Smash Bros. DLC character.The news comes at the conclusion of today's Nintendo Direct presentation. And there you have it. Final Fantasy VII's Cloud Strife will be adding yet another sword to the lineup of Super Smash Bros. for Wii-U and 3DS. Not sure if series fans will see that as a good thing or bad thing, because I've heard that some people don't dig how the Fire Emblem characters get swords and shit.
