This past weekend, Bandai Namco held their closed beta test for their popular fighting game, Dragon Ball FighterZ. It wasn’t easy to get a code to participate, but we at GotGame were lucky enough to obtain one to give the new characters a test drive. Since the test was only at certain times, I was only able to play during the first two sessions, but it gave me the chance to play as all the new characters that weren’t in my E3 preview for the game. Unfortunately, due to an error on my stream, I don’t have any footage or screenshots from my build, but I still have plenty of details to share. Since E3, there have been quite a few additions to the game, and the team at Arc System Works isn’t done yet. Both Android 18 (joined by Android 17) and Android 16 were added to the game, as well as Future Trunks, Piccolo, and Krillin. While the roster is still in development, it was good to see just how much variety the characters offer. No one character feels exactly the … [Read more...] about Impressions from the Dragon Ball FighterZ Closed Beta
Bandai Namco was kind enough to give GotGame some time to check out their new collaboration with Arc System Works, Dragon Ball FighterZ. Arc System Works, best known for their Guilty Gear and BlazBlue series, are no strangers to stylishly animated fighting games. Dragon Ball FighterZ is no different, using what they like to call “stream animation” to capture the dynamic visuals. The game has done well to impress a lot of fans, as it’s truly a sight to behold a good 3 vs 3 match. Luckily, the visual style isn’t the only thing the game has going for it. Dragon Ball FighterZ is an intense battle between some of the series’ most iconic characters. At this time, there are currently six characters announced, including three heroes and three villains. Goku is a given, with the ability to use instant transmission and the option to transform into Super Saiyan 3 during battle. Gohan in his teenage years comes with quick combo attacks and a spiffy Super Saiyan 2 … [Read more...] about E3 2017 Preview | Dragon Ball FighterZ

If there's one thing the Dragon Ball Z universe has no lack of, it's content. With hundreds of characters streaming forth from the manga, anime, and film DBZ properties, the world contains a wealth of material from which to draw when developing a video game. The first game in the DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi series found a decent balance between interesting gameplay mechanics and the massive Dragon Ball Z roster, and based on our first look at a recent Atari press event, Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is upping the ante considerably for the second game in the series. The first place to start, of course, is the roster of otherworldly fighters that will be featured in the game.
