Since the release, many Dragon Ball fans have put in hours of time playing through the game and creating their perfect party to take into battle.DualShockers had the chance to sit down with Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle producer Toshitaka Tachibana (or “Toshi” for short) and talk about the mobile game market and the future of Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle. Azario Lopez: Being a free-to-play mobile title, how did you approach that model with Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle?Toshitaka Tachibana: Actually, we are still constantly trying to work that out and constantly think about. We feel that we still haven’t gotten the perfect balance, but I think we’ve narrowed it down to giving all players the same opportunities. It’s safe to say that Dragon Ball Z is one of the most iconic anime properties in history. It stands alongside Pokemon and Gundam as a rare breed of Japanese culture that’s instantly recognizable to anyone in the world. That level of influence is a no-brainer for video game adaptations and Dragon Ball Z is no stranger to them. Years after the original anime ended broadcast here in North America, DBZ games are still being made. But even with such a long stint on the gaming circuit, Dragon Ball Z has yet to come into its own in that medium. Dragon Ball Z games are at a constant tug-of-war with themselves, divided between the bombastic edge of the anime and the sturdy, precise gameplay of fighting games. Because of that conflict, we may never see a truly cohesive Dragon Ball Z game.Dragon Ball Z games got their first big exposure here in the West with Dragon Ball Z: Budokai on PS2 and Gamecube. A serviceable tie-in, Budokai’s flashy aesthetics and … [Read more...] about Why We May Never See a True Dragon Ball Z Game
The Dragon Ball franchise is in a weird state. As noted in my review on Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z, there’s something about the franchise that has been able to maintain its rather overwhelmingly large and dedicated fanbase for decades since its debut back in 1984. And yet, the games have always had a hard time of capturing the core of the franchise, of making what could be called the quintessential must-have, be-all, end-all Dragon Ball game, though many have captured a part of it. But there’s just something so epic, so grand in scope, that’s hard to dissect and contain in one disc, cartridge, cassette and on. At least, so far.So how do you make the a better Dragon Ball game? What kind of steps can be taken to revive the franchise, to invigorate it, as if resurrected by the dragon balls of game development? And how can future games bring something new to the table? Do People Even Care Enough?First, let me get this out of the way: yes, yes they sure as hell do. People … [Read more...] about Is It Time For The Dragon Ball Z Franchise To Do Something Completely New?
For quite some time now Namco Bandai and Artdink have been gearing up fans of the Dragon Ball franchise for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z, making some major changes to previous formulas seen in the Budokai, Tenkaichi and Raging Blast series, which has been centered around one mechanic: multiplayer. And now with the advent of cooperative and competitive multiplayer to the franchise, Battle of Z can either start a successful new series or end it really fast. So does the game succeed at making Dragon Ball games feel fresh and unique again, or is it yet another stale walk through a too-often retold story?Dragon Ball has been around for a while, moving from manga to anime to video games to cinema (though we try to forget Dragonball:Evolution for the travesty it is), and taking a little boy named Goku into adulthood with Dragon Ball Z and into a bizarre childhood redux in Dragon Ball GT.Spanning a lifetime worth of chapters, sagas, characters and moments, there’s a point where even the … [Read more...] about Review: Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z – Is Multiplayer Mayhem a Major Improvement or a Massive Disappointment?

Knowing how to “Nuke” a boss in Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle is a required skill, so it’s in a player’s best interest to know just what’s required to perform a nuke. Not every Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle player will be able to perform a nuke, and even then a proper nuke scales best with rarer cards. Still, knowing what to collect, what to aim for, and then pursing the pieces of an epic Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle nuke team should be a goal for every player.First off, let’s clarify what nuking really refers to. Many prefer to limit a nuke composition to one that can kill an LR (a 120-level UR) boss in one hit. For the sake of this introduction, we’ll focus on the core facets of implementing a nuke composition. The “perfect” nuke will be left to the experts, who can really break down the numbers for the perfect composition. Needless to say, since Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle is a gacha game, a perfect nuke comp takes a lot of luck, a lot … [Read more...] about Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle: How to Nuke a Boss
Even though it’s not necessarily a console, the Kinect wouldn’t have lived up to its full potential if it hadn’t supported some sort of Dragon Ball Z experience. That’s why Namco Bandai today announced Dragon Ball Z Kinect a new motion controlled experience starring nearly every character from the popular series. Okay maybe not every character but a lot of them.As expected Dragon Ball Z Kinect will allow players to “unleash their inner Super Saiyan” as they complete over 100 different moves from the series including the Kamehameha. No word on if the game lets players actually go Super Saiyan or not, but developer Spike Chunsoft would be silly not to.Also packaged in with the game is new footage from the Dragon Ball Z anime series, footage that has yet to make its way to the US or Europe. There’s no context yet for how this footage might factor into the series, but just hearing new Dragon Ball might be enough for fans to come out of the … [Read more...] about Kamehameha Your TV With ‘Dragon Ball Z Kinect’
