Five Nights at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon says he has pulled back from plans to release a sixth game in the popular horror series. But his message has promoted speculation that this is yet another of his well-known publicity stunts. In a post on Steam, Cawthon wrote that he had been working on a new game, but decided to quit because, "I just don’t want to work on this.” "For the last month or so I’ve been dropping hints about a new game; and it’s true that I’d been working on one (call it FNaF 6 if you’d like.) But after forcing myself to keep working on it day after day, I realized something: I just don’t want to work on this. With each game's release, I think the expectations get higher and higher for the next, and rightfully so. Each game SHOULD be better than the last! But that pressure starts to mount, and I fear that I've been neglecting other things in my life for the sake of trying to keep up with those mounting expectations."So, … [Read more...] about What’s going on with the new Five Nights at Freddy’s game?

Cheese's-like pizza joint inhabited by murderous animatronic mascots, "really lends itself to being a movie."The original Five Night's at Freddy's was released on Steam in the summer of 2014, and was later ported to Android and iOS. Three days after releasing the latest game in the Five Nights at Freddy's series, the series creator posted an open letter of sorts discussing how he's struggled in the past to succeed and now seems to be struggling with the amount of hate he feels has been directed at him lately."It's true that there has been a lot of hate toward me lately; on the forums, on YouTube, etc," he writes. "And I'll be honest, it's difficult. It's difficult when people seem to dislike you only because you've found success with something."Five Nights at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon spent his early game development career working on Christian video games in relative obscurity. It wasn't until the release of the original Five Night at Freddy's in 2014, that he began to see a greater level of success. "Did you know that last year I was working at Dollar General?"In the games, the fourth of which was released on July 23, players try to survive a night of animatronic characters intent on killing the player in … [Read more...] about Five Nights at Freddy’s creator talks about life after Dollar General, the stress of success
The Five Nights at Freddy's series is, for some reason, a huge hit at my kids' school. They talk about the game, they get excited about each new version and they love watching people play the game on YouTube. These are kids barely on the edge of being teenagers, by the way.The above episode of PBS Game/Show goes into great detail about what the game does well and why it's so easy and enjoyable to both play and watch, but it's the generation gap aspect of the game's popularity is interesting to me.It's the perfect storm of anecdotal evidence about how children play games. They love their mobile devices, and they think consuming the act of someone else playing via YouTube is a great way to interact with their favorite games. If you haven't played any of the series, give it a shot. They're not bad, although most of the enjoyment other people find is a bit lost on me personally. If nothing else, you may learn a bit about what those kids are into these days. … [Read more...] about Why is Five Nights at Freddy’s so popular?
It's not a good time to be a pizzeria with "Fred' anywhere in your name. The Asbury Park (N.J.) Press reports that poor Freddie's Restaurant and Pizzeria of Long Branch, N.J. has been beset by unserious phone calls inquiring about Five Nights at Freddy's, the horror-game series set in a children's-themed pizzeria. They come at all hours, from coast to coast.Oscar Hernandez, the manager of real-life Freddie's, says one number is responsible for hundreds of calls. Its area code is nowhere close to New Jersey. The answer isn't as simple as changing the business's name or phone number. "Think about how much business would be lost," a representative with the state's restaurant and hospitality association told The Press. "All of the sudden you change the number and people think you're out of business." It should be noted that Freddie's Restaurant goes back to 1944,Hernandez isn't oblivious to the phenomenon. He's played or at least knows what Five Nights at Freddy's is and why it's popular … [Read more...] about Five Nights at Freddy’s gets a New Jersey pizzeria bombed with phone calls

When Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister's Location developer Scott announced that this week's release is being delayed in order to make the game "more mature", a lot of fans were disappointed. So much, in-fact, that the news post on Steam now has over 6,000 comments. The post itself was quite odd, to a point where it raised suspicion from the get-go. Nonetheless, several outlets covered the delay (including Kotaku), and fans were ready to wait a bit longer to play the game. A buzz kill, to say the least. It turns out that the post was a joke all along. Scott updated the post with the following: EDIT: (As most of you have figured out, the game's not delayed, see you Friday) 😉Would any other game be willing to fake a delay? Probably not, but Five Nights at Freddy's is so popular that it didn't even matter.Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister's Location will release tomorrow. I'm not seeing a price tag, so it's probably $59.99 like No Man's Sky. … [Read more...] about Don’t Worry, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister’s Location Isn’t Really Being Delayed
There will be a Five Nights at Freddy's 3 if the Steam Greenlight community will have it. However, recently “a remarkable discovery was made... The attraction now has one animatronic.”The original Five Nights at Freddy's and its sequel, Five Nights at Freddy's 2, can be purchased on iOS, Android, and PC via Steam. Now excuse me while I go hide in soul-shattering terror. … [Read more...] about Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 Hits Steam Greenlight
