When it was announced that J.K. Rowling would be returning to the Harry Potter universe to pen Newt Scamander's adventures in creating the wizarding textbook (and 2001 Rowling spin-off book) Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them , the Pot-heads of the world rejoiced. Well, get ready to rejoice some more, because Mr. Scamander's adventures are coming to the big screen as a trilogy, according to a New York Times report. In an article about Warner Brothers CEO Kevin Tsujihara, the Times dropped a few nuggets about the Fantastic Beasts movies, as well as Tsujihara's recruitment of Rowling to return to the Potter lore. "Since last March, when he won a bitter succession battle to become C.E.O., Mr. Tsujihara, 49, has surprised Hollywood with bold moves that belie his nice-guy demeanor," the article states. Peanut butter and jelly. Bacon and eggs. Rum and Coke. Simon and Garfunkel. Harry Potter and deckbuilding. These are all two great tastes that taste great together, with the latter combination coming together in the form of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle, a fun legacy-lite deckbuilding game from USAopoly. While you can’t eat it like you can the others, it will still leave you satisfied if you are a fan of deckbuilding games, and especially if you are a fan of the Harry Potter movies. I suppose you can’t eat Simon and Garfunkel either or, at least, you shouldn’t … anyway, let me tell you about Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle, and why you’ll probably want to play it rather than eat it.I’m great at analogies.I’m going to (mostly) avoid spoilers in this review, not because I don’t want to spoil the story of Harry Potter, but because a big part of the fun in the game is discovering what each new box adds to the experience. This game is actually … [Read more...] about Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle Review – Cistem Aperio!

Just prior to E3 2005, we had the opportunity to check out a brief demo of EA's newest entry in the Harry Potter game franchise, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. This latest adventure is a decidedly more action-oriented one, eliminating some of the puzzle-solving aspects of the previous titles and focusing more on pure combat, as well as the Triwizard events featured in the book and upcoming movie. The previous demo we saw only showed off one level, but at today's press event held by EA, we were able to check out a couple of new levels--specifically, a couple of the heralded Triwizard events. The first of the levels featured Harry riding his trusty broomstick through a vast outdoor environment while being pursued by a massive dragon. This was sort of a rail-based level, in that you could simply let go of the controls and Harry would continue to scoot along, though at a much slower pace. The key here, however, was to try to get through as quickly as possible, ideally without … [Read more...] about Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Updated Impressions
