From Software's critically acclaimed action-RPG Bloodborne is one of the PlayStation Plus free games of March 2018, which means there's going to be a multitude of newcomers playing the game for the first time. When you start the game, you'll notice that it's not your typical action-RPG in that it doesn’t distinguish its heroes based on class, but rather how their upbringings have shaped them. Known as origins, these categories are analogous to classes in that they vary widely in determining your starting stats. These origins only vary by statistics. No one class is supplied with any additional gifts, items, or gear. The only exception is the bold hunter’s mark, which is given to every origin. It should be noted that gender, age, nor appearance has any bearing on your stats or abilities. How you shape your character from this point is up to you. As you level up, you can further customize those stats however you see fit. If it turned out you wanted your noble scion to improve … [Read more...] about Bloodborne PS4 Guide: Which Class Is Best For You?

From its original reveal at E3 2014, the upcoming free-to-play action brawler Let It Die established from the get-go that it was going to be a wild, bloody ride in a weird, post-apocalyptic world. With imagery of underwear-clad survivors beating each other with baseball bats and tearing each other apart with chainsaws, Let It Die very much falls in line with the visions we’ve seen from the creator of Killer 7, No More Heroes, and his most recent project Killer is Dead, Goichi Suda (aka “Suda51”).In the time since its original announcement, however, details on Let It Die were a bit scarce, with the free-to-play title currently planning to release later this year exclusively for PS4.During this weekend’s PAX East 2016, we had the chance to chat with Suda51 about his latest project, while getting hands-on time with the game. From there, the conversation ranged from diverse topics such as Let It … [Read more...] about Let It Die Interview: Suda51 Talks Survival, The End of the World, and Heavy Metal

Minecraft gets more popular every day, but we don’t talk about it much anymore. To find out what the game is like in 2014, we asked Duncan Geere to impart his wisdom. The result is a three-part series which will run across this week. Part one looked at Minecraft mods, part two is below…Multiplayer has been a cornerstone of Minecraft ever since it was first added to the game in June 2009. Mining, farming and building a house on your own is great, but exploring the game’s procedurally-generated landscapes as a group is far more fun. Building a massive penis out of gold blocks on the roof of your friend’s mansion is pretty fun too.A sizeable chunk of the Minecraft community in 2014 are players who spend the majority of their in-game time on public or private multiplayer servers. These range wildly in theme and tone – some are centred around survival, some around arcade-style minigames, others around building epic structures and yet more about roleplaying a … [Read more...] about Minecraft In 2014: Your Guide To Servers
I was sat on a beach on Zanzibar this summer, watching a lunar eclipse. The moon’s light dimmed and winked out, the sky filled with stars and I could see the edge of the Milky Way. As spectacular as the view was, my mind briefly turned to Elite II: Frontier, when I was up there in those stars, hunting and hauling. I wanted to be back. I’ve found out how. Pioneer is free sort-of remake of the classic space sim. Every time I load it up it *feels* like the game I lost months to, but the development team aren’t stopping at a perfect recreation: this is Frontier being reborn. I chatted to some of them, a group of passionate fans spread all over the globe, about how you build a universe. RPS: Why Frontier?Ziusudra: History. Our project founder is Tom Morton of GLFrontier fame, an OpenGL port of the original Frontier. Our other project lead, John Jordan, is the JJ in JJFFE. I think most of us have some history with the Frontier games, even if it is just having spent … [Read more...] about Back To Front(ier): Pioneer
With Destiny 2‘s May 18th live event behind us, not to mention the months of avalanche-sized leaks, Destiny fans have a reasonably sound idea of what direction the sequel is heading in. With more gameplay footage and the inciting incidents of the story to go off of, we’ve compiled a guide to everything we do know, everything we’re confident we might know, and everything we desperately want to find out about Destiny 2.What is Destiny 2? Destiny 2 will follow on as a direct sequel from the original Destiny. A Cabal attack on the Last City by the new leader Ghaul has left everything in ruins, forcing the Guardians to take up yet an even more dire fight for survival. According to developers, the sequel will be more of everything that hardcore fans loved about the first game while also being more accessible to new players. Among the new content are raids, cooperative strikes, Nightfall strikes, weapons, planets, additional Guardian subclasses, and … [Read more...] about Destiny 2 – Planets, release date, Guardian class updates
Gearbox Software is calling Borderlands the product of a marriage between two of the video games industry's mainstay genres: the role-playing game and the first-person shooter. Dubbed the "role-playing shooter," the game cherry picks the best gameplay aspects of both categories with the goal of creating fun, twitch first-person action with skill trees, tiered abilities, and the lust for filthy lucre. To do this, the team at Gearbox has taken features normally found in dungeon crawlers and massively multiplayer online games--notably the scale of the world and the desire to clamber for loot--and thrown them into the mix with tried-and-true shooter mechanics. Though the game's stylized visuals will certainly catch your eye, digging a little deeper reveals multiple character classes, carefully tweaked skill trees, and guns. Lots of guns. We recently had the chance to take the game for a spin and get hands-on with a work-in-progress build of the single-player and multiplayer modes … [Read more...] about Borderlands Hands-On Impressions
