During the Nintendo Direct briefing last week, Nintendo finally confirmed news that fans have been waiting to hear since the Switch was first announced: a Super Smash Bros. game is coming to Switch later this year. That's a big deal because it's one of Nintendo's most beloved and best-selling franchises ever. Fans lost their minds when the game was announced, and it'll surely help Nintendo sell even more systems this year. We've only seen one very briefing, tantalising teaser trailer, but that hasn't stopped us from wondering and speculating on what the game may offer. Is it a port of the Wii U edition with some new stages and characters (a la Mario Kart 8 Deluxe)? Which new characters are joining the roster? GameSpot's Jake Dekker and Gajan Kulasingham discuss these topics and more in a new video, which you can watch above. Nintendo has shared very little about the game, only obviously teasing the inclusion of a handful of characters and nothing about new gameplay elements, though the … [Read more...] about Super Smash Bros. Nintendo ended its latest Nintendo Direct in epic fashion by finally confirming Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo Switch. The highly anticipated game, due out for release later this year, has been met with much fanfare and excitement, even though we know next to nothing about it at the time of this writing. All we know definitively is that the Super Smash Bros. roster on the Nintendo Switch will see the debut of the Inklings from Splatoon, as well as the return of series mainstays like Link from The Legend of Zelda and Mario. Shadowy figures seen in the announcement trailer offer a hint as to other characters that may appear in the game, but none of them have been officially announced just yet. If past games in the series are any indication, the roster for Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo Switch will largely consist of Nintendo characters. However, there will likely be some third party crossover characters added to the mix as well, and we think the five listed … [Read more...] about Super Smash Bros. on Switch: 5 Crossover Characters We Want

Although Nintendo fans had been hoping that last week’s Direct would confirm Super Smash Bros. for the Switch, the mic drop announcement trailer still felt like an exciting surprise. In addition to just being exciting to brawl on the go with the Switch, the trailer also got fan hopes up by suggesting that the new Super Smash Bros. won’t just be a port of the Wii U version from 2014. Early leaks and rumors about Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch all hinted that the title would be a port of the Wii U version with some new features and fighters. This would follow the same pattern we saw with the Mario Kart franchise and with Pokken Tournament. Despite that expectation, the intentionally vague announcement trailer (and some follow up research) offers some compelling evidence that the Switch game is actually a brand new entry in the franchise. Let’s start off with the title and logo. Super Smash Bros. was the revealed title, but it seems pretty unlikely that the game … [Read more...] about Is Super Smash Bros.
